Work Experience

Rice Baseball Analytics – August 2021 – present
I am currently serving as the Director of Analytics for the Rice Baseball Team, leading a group of 16 other passionate undergraduate students. Our team embarks on various video, scouting, and data analysis projects with the ultimate goal of helping the team succeed in games and fostering player development. Through this experience, I have gained proficiency in utilizing cutting-edge technology and software, such as Trackman, BATS, Rapsodo, Edgertronic cameras, KinaTrax, Synergy Sports, and TruMedia – the same tools embraced by MLB teams to support their players’ success.
As I finish my last year of college, I am in charge of all analytics operations for the team. In this position, I’m responsible for completing several crucial tasks for the coaching staff and players. This includes creating performance evaluations for our own players, creating detailed scouting reports on upcoming opponents, and work on long-term coding and modeling projects. As director, I also am responsible for recruiting new members of the analytics team, scheduling their shifts to help out at practice, training them on how to create scouting reports and operate technology, and overseeing their education and development as analysts.
During scrimmages and games, our team tags pitches using BATS Video Software and our stadium’s Trackman system. Trackman gives us 167 columns of data for every single pitch thrown. Our team can then complete analytics projects based on the data we collect, as well as data from other NCAA DI contests. We use this data to create metrics that quantify the effectiveness of certain pitches, the quality of at bats, and much more. We can also use data to scout our upcoming opponents. We use TruMedia and Synergy Sports to help us make note of our opponent’s tendencies to help our fielders determine when to shift, our pitchers determine how to attack hitters, and our hitters determine what pitches to be looking for in certain situations.
Under the leadership of former MLB Gold Glover José Cruz Jr., our new coaching staff is wholeheartedly embracing analytics to elevate Rice baseball back to its former status as a perennial postseason contender. To learn more about Cruz and our team’s exciting journey, feel free to visit this link:

Seattle Mariners – May – August 2024
I spent the summer of 2024 as a Baseball Projects Intern with the Seattle Mariners. This opportunity to work in the front office of a Major League Baseball team was an incredibly dynamic experience that allowed me to work on cutting-edge projects each day. The Mariners’ Baseball Projects Team is a unique group among MLB front offices, combining aspects of Data Science, Software Engineering, Player Development, and Player Evaluation into one role.
I was able to contribute in a wide variety of areas throughout the summer. I built, enhanced, and maintained data portals by implementing new features and fixing critical bugs in R Shiny apps, improving data accessibility and usability for player development. I developed predictive models to analyze industry behavior in the draft and free agent market, helping improve efficiency and optimize strategic decisions. I collaborated with leadership including senior directors and members of the coaching staff to fulfill data requests and integrate feedback into various projects and internal tool. I also conducted research and analysis to develop detailed player evaluations and strategic suggestions leading up to the trade deadline.
While I cannot share many more details of my internship, it was a very valuable experience where I learned something new every day. I became a more intelligent baseball thinker myself while improving my analytical skills and working with some of the smartest baseball minds I have ever met. Most of all, this internship reaffirmed my desire to work full-time in a MLB front office for the next several years of my life.

Hyannis Harbor Hawks – January – December 2023
During the 2023 Cape Cod Baseball League season, I had the opportunity to work for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks as a Baseball Operations and Analytics Intern. I was involved in many different areas of the Baseball Ops department, including roster management, data modeling projects, scouting, and player development. Our team has the most extensive baseball operations group in the premier summer league in the country for college players. This has been a fantastic opportunity to apply my skills and learn more about working with elite baseball players.
I joined the Harbor Hawks in January 2023 and quickly began helping build our 2023 roster. I helped our General Manager identify and evaluate potential players to add by providing comprehensive data, statistics, scouting reports, and other relevant information. I also built a spreadsheet that automatically pulled player statistics from Baseball Reference, saving our team several hours of work per week and enabling easy access by the front office and coaching staff.
My involvement with roster management increased as the season began. Our team suffered many early injuries and we were constantly tasked with finding replacements. We built a spreadsheet of every college baseball team in the country and worked on contacting as many as possible to build relationships with coaches and ask about available players. Over 55 players cycled through our 30 man active roster over the course of the 2 month season, and I helped with nearly ever roster move. As we reach the end of the season, we have started to look for players for the 2024 roster.
Once the season began in early June, our team also began to work on writing scouting reports on every opposing player in the league. We start with a custom report template from TruMedia, then use additional data from Synergy, TruMedia, and Trackman to add relevant tendencies and information. We also watch video on each player so we can add qualitatively descriptions of player as well. These scouting reports are constantly references by players and coaches during games and are a crucial part of the team’s game preparation and execution.
Alongside scouting, I have been able to work on several exciting analytics projects during my time on Cape. Some of my projects include Trackman postgame reports on catchers and umpires, run expectancy tables and run value calculations for the Cape League, a WAR model for the Cape League, a framing model for the Cape League, and a matchup matrix used by our coaches during games. Please take a look at the Projects tab of the site for more information on many of these projects.

Youth Baseball Coaching – September 2018 – May 2023
Back home in the northern suburbs of Chicago, I spend lots of my free time coaching youth baseball with the Illinois Baseball Academy (IBA). Once I realized that my competitive baseball playing career was coming to a close, I looked for ways to stay involved with the sport. One opportunity that I quickly identified was to become a coach for the same youth teams that I once played on. Starting in my sophomore year of high school, I spent several hours every week working with kids at IBA. It is a fantastic way for me to put my knowledge of baseball to good use, work on my leadership and teamwork skills, and share my passion for the sport with my community.
During the school year when I was still in high school, I worked at IBA several times per week after school and on weekends. IBA hosts year-round practices and clinics for local travel teams and recreational house leagues. At these events, we would be responsible for teaching baseball-specific skills, ensuring our players’ safety, and making sure they were having fun. We would set up drills, come up with creative and engaging contests, and make sure kids were improving every day. Coaches would also be asked to help work at birthday parties, tryouts, and showcases throughout the Chicago suburbs and north side of the city.
While my college attendance in Houston prevents me from working year-round at IBA, I am still able to stay involved over the summers. During the summer, IBA hosts weekly summer camps for kids aged 4-14. At each camps, coaches lead our groups through a variety of baseball drills and games, as well as non-baseball activities. Additionally, IBA trains and assigns coaches to three different local travel baseball programs in the area. Travel coaches are given full control and responsibility of their teams for the entire summer season. We schedule and run practices, manage our teams during games, and help our players improve and connect with each other. Over the past 4 years, I have worked with the following teams:
-2019: KWBA Bulldogs 10U Green – Assistant Coach
-2020: KWBA Bulldogs 10U Green – Assistant Coach
-2021: KWBA Bulldogs 10U Grey and New Trier Feeder 13U Blue – Assistant Coach
-2022: Wilmette 11U Grey – Head Coach

Private Wealth Management Intern – Summer 2022
I joined the boutique investment firm William Blair for a Private Wealth Management Internship in the summer of 2022. This opportunity granted me full access to all of William Blair’s excellent resources for building unique, successful investment portfolios for each of their clients. During my internship, I worked closely with the Kasten Wealth Management team to research stocks, alternative securities, and other areas of interest to the team’s advisors. At the end of my internship, I presented my research and opinions on many different securities to the entire team of wealth advisors and customer relations associates. Additionally, I used data from Factset and other sources to analyze the historical performance of an ETF portfolio under specific rebalancing rules for members of the Kasten team. Finally, as part of Blair’s intern experience, I built a complete investment portfolio including stocks, bonds, ETFs, and a 529 plan for a mock client after conducting a prospecting session and meeting with several wealth advisors. My summer at Blair offered me a special opportunity to learn about wealth management, conduct real-world financial research, and network with many young professionals.

Baseball Umpiring – March 2016 – present
Over the past several years, I have played a few different roles in multiple baseball umpiring organizations. I started back when I was in 7th grade, when I was trained to be a youth umpire for the Glencoe Baseball Association (GBA). Youth umpires work as a base umpire alongside an adult home plate umpire to officiate recreational baseball games in Glencoe’s house league. We are responsible for knowing all of the rules, enforcing them properly, communicating effectively with coaches and players, and keeping kids safe. I umpired in this program from 7th-10th grade, and was frequently asked to work playoff and all-star games based on my performance.
In early 2020, I connected with a GBA board member who mentioned that their umpire coordinator was leaving the position. She suggested that I take over the role, which I did in February 2020. I started to prepare training and schedules for our youth umpires, until our season was cancelled in March. The next year, I once again took on the umpire coordinator role for the 2021 GBA season. My responsibilities included setting up a training session for new umpires, communicating about availability with my 13 umpires in order to assign them to games, and tracking their schedules and earnings throughout the season. I was also tasked with organizing the GBA Home Run Derby in May 2021. For this event, I helped decide on the rules, recruit volunteers, set up and clean up the event, and pitch to batters during the derby. I really enjoyed working with GBA, because I could give back to the community while learning important organizational skills.
Finally, once I aged out of GBA’s youth umpire program, I looked for ways to continue umpiring games in my area. I reached out to a few local umpire assignors, and joined Jeff Siegel’s UMPS organization as well as Official Finders. I also attended training clinics and passed a rules exam in order to become IHSA certified, which allows me to ump high school games in Illinois. By being a member of UMPS and IHSA, I am now able to umpire high school and youth travel games in my area. I am now often the umpire-in-chief at games, and am solely responsible for ensuring that rules are followed safely.
My love of baseball makes umpiring a great service activity for me. To read more about the Home Run Derby event I organized for my community, read this article:
